Anthropic reaches $965 billion valuation, surpassing OpenAI for the first time

Anthropic closed a $65 billion funding round that pushed its valuation to $965 billion — surpassing OpenAI, last valued at $852 billion in March. It is the first time an AI company outside OpenAI's orbit leads the sector's private valuation ranking.

The round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia, and includes $15 billion in prior commitments including $5 billion from Amazon. In parallel, Anthropic confidentially filed for a public listing. An IPO could come in the second half of 2026.

What changed to get here

In February 2026, Anthropic was worth $380 billion. In less than four months, it nearly tripled. The visible engine is Claude — which grew 306% in web visits in a single quarter (from 203M in January to 824M in April 2026) and now wins roughly 70% of enterprise deals in head-to-head matchups against OpenAI.

Part of the enterprise surge came from an OpenAI own-goal. When the company announced a Defense Department deal in February 2026, analysts recorded a spike in ChatGPT uninstalls and a measurable migration to Claude. Trust became a competitive differentiator.

Why the flip matters beyond the number

Valuation is a bet on future cash flow. $965 billion signals the market believes Anthropic will capture a significant slice of what remains the fastest-growing technology segment in history.

The $113 billion gap between Anthropic and OpenAI looks large but both are racing toward a $1 trillion valuation before IPO. Who arrives first sets the reference floor for the whole industry.

The read for decision-makers today

The Anthropic vs. OpenAI contest is no longer lopsided — and for enterprise buyers that is good news. Two strong players at the top keep API pricing and model quality under competitive pressure.

For 10Dobro, which runs Claude as the backbone of 26 production systems, Anthropic's valuation growth confirms the direction. What matters day-to-day is performance and cost, not market cap. Claude remains our technical choice. The $65B round is just context for why the platform is not going away tomorrow.
